497cb2e587 CPP: fix static objects init for MWDT toolchain
The constructors of static objects are stored in ".ctors"
section. In case of MWDT toolchain we have incompatible
".ctors" section format with GNU toolchain. So let's use
initialization code provided by MWDT instead of Zephyr one
in case of MWDT toolchain usage.

As it is done for GNU toolchain We call constructors of
static objects but we don't call destructors for them.

3a559e972a Bluetooth: Mesh: Modularizing the proxy
The Bluetooth proxy feature includes proxy client
and proxy server. In addition to the proxy pdu
message used above, pb-gatt also uses the same
proxy pdu message.

Currently zephyr bluetooth mesh couples them in one file.

A file at the separation is called gatt_services.c,
which is used to contain Mesh Provisioning Service
and Mesh Proxy Service.
Another file in the separation is called proxy_msg.c,
which is used to process Proxy pdu messages.

Also according to Trond's suggestion:

Rename `CONFIG_BT_MESH_PROXY` to `CONFIG_BT_MESH_GATT`.
Create an additional promptless entry
`CONFIG_BT_MESH_GATT_SERVER` that selects
`CONFIG_BT_MESH_GATT` and is selected by
`CONFIG_BT_MESH_GATT_PROXY` or `CONFIG_BT_MESH_PB_GATT`.

Create additional `CONFIG_BT_MESH_PROXY` used to represent
proxy feature (also include proxy client).

88eda6f77d linker: allocate devices in ROM
Pull request https://github.com/zephyrproject-rtos/zephyr/pull/24873
marked all the struct devices const.

However, the linker scripts were never updated to actually allocate
the struct devices in ROM. They're still in RAM, so the main benefit
of this work has not been realized.

Fix it.

2b76f0fee2 init: tweak Zephyr .init* section name conflicting with toolchain
In case of ARC MWDT toolchain and C++ support enabled the Zephyr .init*

Let's add 'z_' prefix to Zephyr .init* section (and therefore .device

acda9bf9ce linker-tool-gcc: revise for MMU support
We need to do a few things differently if we are to support
a virtual memory map, i.e. CONFIG_MMU where CONFIG_KERNEL_VM_BASE
is not the same as CONFIG_SRAM_BASE_ADDRESS.

 - All sections must be specified with a VMA and LMA, where
   VMA is the virtual address and LMA is the physical memory
   location.
 - All sections must be specified with ALIGN_WITH_INPUT to
   keep VMAs and LMAs synchronized

To do this, the existing linker macros need some adjustment:

 - GROUP_LINK_IN undefined when CONFIG_KERNEL_VM_BASE is not
   the same as CONFIG_SRAM_BASE_ADDRESS.
 - New macro GROUP_ROM_LINK_IN for text/rodata sections
 - New macro GROUP_NOLOAD_LINK_IN for bss/noinit sections
 - Implicit ALIGN_WITH_INPUT for all sections

GROUP_FOLLOWS_AT is unused anywhere in the kernel for years
now and has been removed.

0d099bdd54 linker: remove asterisk from IRQ/ISR section name macro
Both _IRQ_VECTOR_TABLE_SECTION_NAME and _SW_ISR_TABLE_SECTION_NAME
are defined with asterisk at the end in an attempt to include
all related symbols in the linker script. However, these two
macros are also being used in the source code to specify
the destination sections for variables. Asterisks in the name
results in older GCC (4.x) complaining about those asterisks.
So create new macros for use in linker script, and keep
the names asterisk free.

d2eadfa162 lib/os: P4 Work Queue: Pooled Parallel Preemptible Priority-based
This adds a somewhat special purpose IPC mechanism. It's intended for
applications which have a "work queue" like architecture of discrete
callback items, but which need the ability to schedule those items
independently in separate threads across multiple CPUs. So P4 Work
items:

1. Can run at any Zephyr scheduler priority and with any deadline
   (this feature assumes EDF scheduling is enabled)

2. Can be submitted at any time and from any context, including being
   resubmitted from within their own handler.

3. Will preempt any lower priority work as soon as they are runnable,
   according to the standard rules of Zephyr priority scheduling.

4. Run from a pool of worker threads that can be allocated efficiently
   (i.e. you need as many as the number of CPUs plus the number of
   preempted in-progress items, but no more).

9e4dfd8f4e drivers: pcie: Add support for IRQ allocation management
There are x86 platforms where the IRQ configuration register for PCIe
is not pre-populated and the OS needs to assign a number dynamically
by writing to the register.

In order to allocate interrupts we have to know which ones have been
hard-coded in device tree. We accomplish this by collecting these
values through the IRQ_CONNECT() macro and placing them in a dedicated
linker section (in ROM).

The full set of allocated interrupts are managed through a bitmap, and
the pre-allocated values (from the linker section) are inserted into
this upon initial runtime access.

This patch introduces a new pcie_alloc_irq() API that drivers can use
to allocate interrupt line numbers. The two in-tree drivers that were
using this API (I2C and UART) are converted to use the new API.

eca0141152 Bluetooth: Mesh: Isolate cryptographic material
This is a major refactoring of the handling of the cryptographic
material of both the network and transport layers. The aim is to
encapsulate the key object manipulation, and improve overall modularity.

Pulls Applications and Subnets out of the bt_mesh and into separate
modules, with static storage types on the data. This has several
side-effects:
- The Config Server no longer operates directly on the bt_mesh.subs and
  bt_mesh.apps lists, but goes through a public configuration interface,
  following the pattern set in #27908.
- All iteration through the keys is done through iteration APIs
- Key resolution on RX and TX is centralized.
- Changes to the keys triggers events the other modules can register
  handlers for.
- Friendship credentials are stored in the lpn and friend structures.

1972f0b7f4 ec_host_cmd: add ec host command handler framework
Add a generic host command handler framework that allows users to
declare new host command handlers with the HOST_COMMAND_HANDLER macro
at build time. The framework will handle incoming messages from the
host command peripheral device and forwards the incoming data to the
appropriate host command handler, which is looked up by id.

The framework will also send the response from the handler back to the
host command peripheral device. The device handles sending the data on
the physical bus.

This type of host command communication is typically done on an embedded
controller for a notebook or computer. The host would be the main
application processor (aka AP, CPU, SoC).

302d671ea2 emul: Create an emulation implementation
Create a header file and implementation for emulators. Set up a linker
list so that emulators can be found and initialised at start-up.

Emulators are used to emulate hardware devices, to support testing of
various subsystems. For example, it is possible to write an emulator
for an I2C compass such that it appears on the I2C bus and can be used
just like a real hardware device.

Emulators often implement special features for testing. For example a
compass may support returning bogus data if the I2C bus speed is too
high, or may return invalid measurements if calibration has not yet
been completed. This allows for testing that high-level code can
handle these situations correctly. Test coverage can therefore
approach 100% if all failure conditions are emulated.

45979dafb4 linker: add iterable section macros

the corresponding output section in the linker script is just
boilerplate. Add macros to make these definitions simpler.

8d7bb8ffd8 device: Refactor device structures
When the device driver model got introduced, there were no concept of
SYS_INIT() which can be seen as software service. These were introduced
afterwards and reusing the device infrastructure for simplicity.
However, it meant to allocate a bit too much for something that only
required an initialization function to be called at right time.

Thus refactoring the devices structures relevantly:
- introducing struct init_entry which is a generic init end-point
- struct deviceconfig is removed and struct device owns everything now.
- SYS_INIT() generates only a struct init_entry via calling
  INIT_ENTRY_DEFINE()
- DEVICE_AND_API_INIT() generates a struct device and calls
  INIT_ENTRY_DEFINE()
- init objects sections are in ROM
- device objects sections are in RAM (but will end up in ROM once they
  will be 'constified')

It also generate a tiny memory gain on both ROM and RAM, which is nice.

Perhaps kernel/device.c could be renamed to something more relevant.

This commit cleans up the section name definitions in the linker

In addition, the scope of the short section reference aliases (e.g.

currently used (and intended to be used) only by the ASM code to
specify the target section for functions and variables, and these short

c20ff1150f subsys/settings: Enable handler ROM registration
Add the possibility to register handles to ROM using a new macro
SETTINGS_REGISTER_STATIC(handler), the handler is of type
settings_handler_stat and has to be declared as const:

```
const struct settings_handler_stat test_handler = {
	.name = "test", /* this can also be "ps/data"
	.h_get = get,
	.h_set = set,
	.h_commit = NULL, /* NULL defines can be ommited */
	.h_export = NULL  /* NULL defines can be ommited */
};
SETTINGS_REGISTER_STATIC(test_handler);
```

To maintain support for handlers stored in RAM (dynamic handlers)
`CONFIG_SETTINGS_DYNAMIC_HANDLERS`must be enabled, which is by default.

When registering static handlers there is no check if this handler has
been registered earlier, the latest registered static handler will be
considered valid for any set/get routine, while the commit and export
routines will be executed for both registered handlers.

When a dynamic handler is registered a check is done to see if there was
an earlier registration of the name as a static or dynamic handler
registration will fail.

To get to the lowest possible RAM usage it is advised to set
`CONFIG_SETTINGS_DYNAMIC_HANDLERS=n`.

Updates:

a. Changed usage of RAM to DYNAMIC/dynamic, ROM to STATIC/static
b. Updated settings.h to remove added #if defined()
c. Make static handlers always enabled
d. Corrected error introduced in common-rom.ld.
e. Changed return value of settings_parse_and_lookup to
   settings_handler_stat type to reduce stack usage.
f. Updated the name generated to store a handler item in ROM. It now
   uses the name used to register in combination with the line where
   SETTINGS_REGISTER_STATIC() is called.
g. renamed settings_handler_stat type to settings_handler_static
h. renamed SETTINGS_REGISTER_STATIC to SETTINGS_STATIC_HANDLER_DEFINE()

mistakes.

b1d3742ce2 linker generated list: introduce Z_STRUCT_SECTION_ITERABLE()
This convenience macro wraps Z_DECL_ALIGN() and __in_section() to
simplify static definitions of structure instances gathered in dedicated
sections. Most of the time those go together, and the section name is
already closely related to the struct type, so abstracting things behind
a simpler interface reduces probability of mistakes and makes the code
clearer. A few input section names have been adjusted accordingly.
