Why IEC 61508?
==============
The IEC 61508 standard was selected because it serves as a foundational functional safety standard
applicable across various industry sectors. It provides a robust framework that can be used as
base for specific standards for different industries. This makes IEC 61508 particularly relevant
for Zephyr, as the operating system's versatility allows it to be effectively utilized across a
wide range of industry sectors.

The following diagram illustrates the relationship between the IEC 61508 standard and other related
